SUMMARY:Run Hub Speaker Series #4
DESCRIPTION:It’s Okay to Have Negative Thoughts\n\n\n\nWith Melissa Todd\, Ph.D.\, Licensed Psychologist \n\n\n\n\n\nRun Hub is hosting a four-part speaker series for runners of all levels! In this session you’ll learn Acceptance and Commitment Training (ACT) from a sport psychologist who teaches the same skills to elite athletes\, and find out how to apply its principles to fit your needs as a runner. \n\n\n\nHave you ever tried to “think positive\,” “be confident\,” or “just believe in yourself\,” only to notice this is more easily said than done? Have you struggled with motivation and sticking to your training plan? ACT teaches athletes to relate more effectively to uncomfortable thoughts\, emotions\, and sensations\, while staying engaged in committed\, values-driven actions toward their goals. It is quickly becoming the approach of choice for modern sport psychologists. \n\n\n\nRegister here ($10 fee) \n\n\n\nDr. Melissa Todd is not only a sport psychologist\, but a former competitive runner herself. She was a six-time All-American in college and NCAA Division III National Champion at 1\,500 meters. She became a prolific road racer during her post-collegiate running career\, with several top-15 finishes at USATF Championships and an 8th place finish at the USATF 10 Mile Championships. She currently enjoys running recreationally with her friends and working professionally with athletes and other individuals in performance intensive situations.
