SUMMARY:Destination Trail Run: Shotgun Creek Trail
DESCRIPTION:This month we will be going to the lush looped Shotgun Creek Trail in Marcola\, Oregon on Saturday\, March 31. This is a trail runners paradise as it is only a 30 minute drive from Eugene\, and most days you can have the trail all to yourself to get your trail running zen on. It is also a 5 mile looped trail\, so for those who do not like seeing the same things twice this is a perfect run to get 5 miles in. If you want to get a longer run in you can always tag on another loop\, or even a third loop! \nThis trail is also the host of the Shotgun Trail Blast directed by the local Level 32 Racing company happening on April 7th. The race has a 5k\, 10k\, 25k\, and even a 50k option to meet any type of runners needs. For more information go to http://level32racing.com/Shotgun_Trail_Blast.html. If you are planning on competing in the race this could be a great preview run for you. \nAfter the run you are welcome to join us at the Marcola Roadhouse for some serious calorie refueling. Turn left onto Shotgun Creek Road and go 1.5 miles to the Shotgun Creek Campground. Turn right into the campground. \nThis is a free event\, and all running capabilities are welcome! Coffee\, bagels\, and donuts will be provided by Run Hub. \nRunning as a group is fun\, but giving back to our community is important and fun\, too. To celebrate the long sunny days we are putting on a three day preview run for the upcoming Oakridge Triple Summit Challenge race on September 7th-9th. Each day will have 5 mile\, 10 mile\, or even 15 plus mile options. You will even have the opportunity to run a flatter trail if you like. After an epic run in the forest\, join us at the local watering hole\, Brewers Union Local 180 for a pint and a burger (or veggie). This brewery has some amazing beers on cask\, as well as some mouth watering food. \n  \nMake this an epic weekend to remember\, by exploring trails with friends\, and capping it off with a cold one and some laughs. SUMMARY:Monthly Destination Trail Run: McKenzie River Trail
DESCRIPTION:For December’s monthly Trail destination run we will keep with tradition and head to the McKenzie River Trail for the holidays! We will meet at Runhub at 9 AM to carpool to Belknap Hot Springs\, and then will get shuttled to two different spots up the trail for a 13\, 9\, or 5 mile option. The 5 miler will start at Deer Creak and head back to Belknap\, while the 9 and 13 miler will be dropped off at Trail Bridge. If you wish to do the 9 you simply will run back to Belknap. For those of you who want to get extra mileage in or more views you will run 2 miles east until you hit Blue Pool. If you have not seen this wonder it is definitely worth burning the extra calories. Afterwards come join us for a soak at Belknap. One hour costs $7\, and will be certain to warm your legs up after a brisk run on the trail. Shuttles will be $5 a piece. Cash only please. All levels welcome. SUMMARY:Monthly Destination Trail Run: North Umpqua Trail
DESCRIPTION:For our monthly destination trail run we will be heading south toward Roseburg\, to a small town called Glide. Home to the North Umpqua Trail system. With a 79 mile point to point trail\, we will be doing the very start of the trail which is the Swiftwater trailhead. All level of runners are welcome and we will have a route option that should fit every runners need\, with a 5\, 10\, or 15 mile out and back option. Some of the highlights of the trail will be Deadline Falls\, Fern Creek Falls\, and Bob Butte. \nAfter burning calories in the forest\, come replenish your body by grabbing a bite to eat at O’tooles Pub in Roseburg. \nWe will be meeting at Run Hub at 8:00 AM to carpool to the trail. It is about an hour and 50 minute drive. After the run everyone is welcome to grab some food and drink at O’tooles Pub on the way back home. Please bring water and fuel for yourself on the run\, as well as a change of clothes for afterward. \nCome join us for some great running\, food\, drink and friends. All are welcome! \nHere is the BLM website for the North Umpqua Trail and the menu for O’Tooles Pub. When looking at the trail note that we will be parking at the first trailhead. It is in the Tioga segment but is called Swiftwater trailhead. Thanks! \n

SUMMARY:The Science of Running Better and Injury Free + Community Run
DESCRIPTION:Come hear elite runner & Altra founder Golden Harper share his story and participate in a clinic on debunking running myths and understanding the science that will help you become a better\, injury free runner! This is a hands on workshop for all runners and is not an Altra shoe clinic. \nSchedule\n5:30 p.m.: Golden introduction \n6 p.m.: Golden will lead a short clinic focusing on how to run faster and injury free. This will transition into our community run. Refreshments will be provided after the run! \n7-8:30 p.m.: Golden will lead a discussion on myths vs science regarding running surfaces\, foot pain\, cushioning\, pronation and more—and how these topics may or may not be related to injury and how to apply the knowledge so you are still running strong at age 80 and beyond! \nGolden will also raffle off a pair of shoes and some swag during the event. \nSome background on Golden: He began running marathons at a young age. When he was 12 years old\, he ran the St. George Marathon in 2:45:34\, setting a world best. He went on to win two Cross Country State Championships and record top finishes in many mountain races\, including winning the Jupiter Peak Steeplechase. In addition\, Golden grew up working in his family’s running store. He graduated from Brigham Young University with a bachelor’s degree in exercise science.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a St. Paddy’s Day RunVenture – pub run style! This running scavenger hunt is a choose-your-own-adventure with possible stops at multiple breweries\, a cider house and a distillery. For each location you visit you’ll get points and points will get you tickets for the post-run raffle. \nThe event starts at 1 p.m. at the store. We’ll have some of our vendors onsite\, including Altra\, Feetures and Nuun. Demo some Altra shoes and Feetures socks and sample some Nuun electrolyte drinks to earn even more points. You’ll also receive your RunVenture passport. (At each location you visit you’ll receive a stamp on your passport.) The run will start at 2 p.m. and you’ll try to make it to as many locations as you can before 3 p.m. \nThe run will end at Sam Bond’s Brewing\, where we’ll host our raffle. Prizes will include beer\, running swag and more beer! \nIn addition to raffle prizes\, we’ll also have prizes for the winners of our costume contest! If not you can skip this paragraph: The mountainous\, temperate Tillamook Rain forest in Northwestern Oregon is steeped in history\, most notably\, the legendary “Tillamook Burn” forest fires that consumed 355\,000 acres of colossal old growth forest from 1933-1951. One of the largest tree replanting campaigns in human history led to the formation of the Tillamook State Forest in 1974. Today\, a lush second-growth forest thrives here\, offering dozens of miles of exceptional single-track trails for us to enjoy\, while showcasing hundreds of massive\, emblematic “grey ghost” snags and charred stumps– enduring relics of the vast old growth rain forest that reigned here prior to the Tillamook Burn. \nHISTORY OF THE GRAND LODGE MCMENAMINS:\nIn 1917\, plans were developed for the Masonic and Eastern Star Home for the State of Oregon\, and construction began in 1920. It was established as a home for elderly and infirm Masons\, and began operations in 1922. A smaller building\, called the Children’s Cottage\, was built in 1926 to house orphans\, but the orphanage closed in 1928 after conflict between the children and the elders. \nThroughout the 1930’s\, the home struggled financially. The building suffered roof damage in 1962 after the Columbus Day Storm. In 1999 the Masons began building new facilities with the intention of moving out of the original Masonic Home and Children’s Cottage. McMenamins began renovations fall 1999\, and reopened the building as McMenamins Grand Lodge in March 2000. The building now contains hotel rooms\, meeting spaces\, and a movie theater.
