DESCRIPTION:Come hear elite runner & Altra founder Golden Harper share his story and participate in a clinic on debunking running myths and understanding the science that will help you become a better\, injury free runner! This is a hands on workshop for all runners and is not an Altra shoe clinic. \nSchedule\n5:30 p.m.: Golden introduction \n6 p.m.: Golden will lead a short clinic focusing on how to run faster and injury free. This will transition into our community run. Refreshments will be provided after the run! \n7-8:30 p.m.: Golden will lead a discussion on myths vs science regarding running surfaces\, foot pain\, cushioning\, pronation and more—and how these topics may or may not be related to injury and how to apply the knowledge so you are still running strong at age 80 and beyond! \nGolden will also raffle off a pair of shoes and some swag during the event. \nSome background on Golden: He began running marathons at a young age. When he was 12 years old\, he ran the St. George Marathon in 2:45:34\, setting a world best. He went on to win two Cross Country State Championships and record top finishes in many mountain races\, including winning the Jupiter Peak Steeplechase. In addition\, Golden grew up working in his family’s running store. He graduated from Brigham Young University with a bachelor’s degree in exercise science.

If not you can skip this paragraph: The mountainous\, temperate Tillamook Rain forest in Northwestern Oregon is steeped in history\, most notably\, the legendary “Tillamook Burn” forest fires that consumed 355\,000 acres of colossal old growth forest from 1933-1951. One of the largest tree replanting campaigns in human history led to the formation of the Tillamook State Forest in 1974. Today\, a lush second-growth forest thrives here\, offering dozens of miles of exceptional single-track trails for us to enjoy\, while showcasing hundreds of massive\, emblematic “grey ghost” snags and charred stumps– enduring relics of the vast old growth rain forest that reigned here prior to the Tillamook Burn. \nHISTORY OF THE GRAND LODGE MCMENAMINS:\nIn 1917\, plans were developed for the Masonic and Eastern Star Home for the State of Oregon\, and construction began in 1920. It was established as a home for elderly and infirm Masons\, and began operations in 1922. A smaller building\, called the Children’s Cottage\, was built in 1926 to house orphans\, but the orphanage closed in 1928 after conflict between the children and the elders. \nThroughout the 1930’s\, the home struggled financially. The building suffered roof damage in 1962 after the Columbus Day Storm. In 1999 the Masons began building new facilities with the intention of moving out of the original Masonic Home and Children’s Cottage. McMenamins began renovations fall 1999\, and reopened the building as McMenamins Grand Lodge in March 2000. The building now contains hotel rooms\, meeting spaces\, and a movie theater.

DESCRIPTION:Run Hub NW presents to you a fun run on the Alpine and North Fork Trail in beautiful Westfir\, Oregon! Afterward we will stop at Brewers Union Local 180 in Oakridge for a cold pint and hot tasty food! \nIf you have never been to Westfir before\, I suggest you do not miss this run. We will drive over a covered red bridge and will have your option between two different forested trails. The North Fork trail is a beautiful rolling hill trail that follows the river. If it is a warm day there are sections where you can take a dip to cool off in the refreshing water. Looking for some climbing? Look no further. Alpine is one of the most popular mountain biking trails in the area. With a bunch of climbs and trail that goes on for days\, you will never run out of trails. Either trail is an out and back. Are you directionally challenged? No worries\, as long as you don’t plan on running an ultra\, you will never hit any other trail options. Just simply go out as long as you like\, enjoying the forest and river\, and then turn around and come back. After the run we will head to Brewers Union Local 180\, which has some of the best tasting food around\, as well as beers on cask. \nCome out and explore one of the best small towns in Oregon\, totally surrounded by the Willamette National Forest. DESCRIPTION:Join us for our annual run and raft trip on the McKenzie River! Run on the McKenzie River Trail and then choose whether to stay for lunch and a guided rafting trip on the river. NOTE: You must sign up ahead of time for the raft trip. More details below. \nTHE TRAIL RUN\nWe’ll meet at Run Hub at 8 a.m. and leave by 8:15 a.m. to head to the Paradise campground boat launch\, arriving by about 9:30 a.m. There will be people choosing just to run or run and raft\, so we can determine carpools prior to leaving Run Hub. \nTHE SHUTTLE\nOur friends at Horse Creek Lodge offer a shuttle service to transport us upriver from Paradise so we can do a point-to-point run with options of 6 or 12 miles. Shuttling is $5 to cover staffing and gas for shuttles. Please email reservations@horse-creek.com or call 541-822-3243 to reserve your spot on the shuttle bus! \nLUNCH\nAfter the 1-2+ hr trail run (depending which distance you choose)\, we’ll plan on using the picnic tables to have lunch at Paradise campground. Note: you provide your own lunch. \nRAFTING\nAfter lunch\, those who signed up for rafting will suit up in booties and wet suits and get going about 1-1:30 p.m. The raft trip is about 3 hours of floating on the river and includes snacks and a shuttle back to Paradise for $55. This is a $10 discount for our group with code HCGUEST when you sign up. If you plan to raft PLEASE BOOK YOUR SPOT EARLY so that they can plan ahead for enough rafts and guides. The rafting cost includes your trail run shuttle fee. \nBOOK YOUR RAFT TRIP AT: http://www.horse-creek.com/horse-creek/mckenzie-river-rafting/ and click “Book Now” below the half day option. Select July 27 on the calendar and choose the 1:30 option\, even though our group might get going sooner. DESCRIPTION:In lieu of our destination trail run this month\, we are encouraging runners to participate in or spectate at the Oakridge Triple Summit Challenge Sept. 27-29. This race is directed by Run Hub staffer Devin VansCoy\, who leads our monthly trail runs. \nThe Oakridge Triple Summit is a 3-day stage race on the trails of the beautiful Willamette National Forest near Oakridge\, Oregon. Each race showcases a new trail and has over 2\,600 feet of elevation gain. Runners can register for one\, two or all three days. DESCRIPTION:Our RunVenture series is back and more fun than ever! This running scavenger hunt will take you to several locations in town\, where you’ll receive stamps on your passport. The more stamps you get\, the more raffle tickets you’ll receive for the post-run raffle! Be sure to dress up in your back to school attire – best nerd and jock will receive prizes! This event is free. \nMeet at the shop at 5 p.m. to demo products from New Balance\, Currex\, Defunkify and Trail Butter. You’ll also receive raffle tickets for trying these products! The run will start at 6 p.m. and end at 7 p.m.\, at which time we’ll do the raffle.

Come run the Community Race at the Springfield Cross Country Invitational on Saturday\, September 28 at 9:00 a.m. \nThe Community 5K Race is open to everyone. It will be a two loop course around Willamalane Park\, just east of SHS. All proceeds from the community race go to support the Springfield High School Cross Country and Track and Field programs.
