SUMMARY:Beginner 5K Program: First Practice
DESCRIPTION:Are you interested in running your first or second 5K? Our fall Beginner 5K Training Program returns on Sat\, Sept. 6! \n\n\n\nOur 12-week training program is geared towards beginning runners and those returning to running. Certified coaches will provide guidance and suggestions for weekly training as we build toward running the Run to Stay Warm 5K. Participants can expect to start with walking and jogging and build toward continuously running for at least 5 km.The first practice is on Saturday\, September 6\, at 8:30 AM. We will meet weekly on Saturdays to run and will have an occasional guest speaker. Saturday time commitment will be from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30-9:45 a.m. but may end closer to 10:00 a.m. on days that include guest speakers. The YMCA will be the primary practice location\, but local parks and trails will also be utilized. Participants will receive a free t-shirt\, complimentary socks\, and a discount at Run Hub for the duration of the training program. \n\n\n\nReturning runners will have the option to do an intermediate workout on Saturdays. \n\n\n\nCost is $75 for YMCA members and $85 for non-members. The registration cost does not include the Run to Stay Warm registration fee. \n\n\n\n\nRegister here

Our fall 2025 Gear Grants application opens on August 15\, and grants will be issued to cross country athletes in September. \n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\nPre-registration is required for the event. Your Jackpot Jog ticket includes \n\n\n\n\naccess to the poker run and post-run raffle\n\n\n\na catered lunch from Yabai Nikkei (chicken or tofu teriyaki\, rice\, salad and Japanese potato salad)\n\n\n\na drink from ColdFire Brewing (beer\, wine and non-alcoholic options)\n\n\n\n\nWe encourage you to buy your ticket before Sept 6\, so that we have an accurate count of participants for the caterer. The ticket price will increase to $43 on Sept 6. \n\n\n\nAbout the event\n\n\n\nThe event will start at 11:30 AM at Run Hub Northwest\, 515 High Street in Eugene\, and participants will have one hour to check out Brooks demo shoes (Ghost Max 3\, Hyperion Max 3 and Ghost 17) and other products from our sponsors. The run will start at 12 PM at Run Hub. Runners will run to five checkpoints throughout downtown Eugene and will draw a playing card at each one.
