SUMMARY:Brice Creek Trail Destination Run
DESCRIPTION:Mark your calendar for our Destination Trail Run happening the last Saturday of each month! We had such a great time at our last event and we hope you can make it again. Bring a friend and show them an area and trail they may not have explored previously. We’ve found quite the gem of a trail that will have you running under a canopy of trees and past Trestle Creek’s various waterfalls. \nJoin local trail runner Trace Bee and others for some single-track fun out near Cottage Grove\, OR. Choose between a 45-90 minute looped run with the group (4.5-6 miles). Please bring water and snacks. We’ll try to find a nice little spot on our way home to stop for coffee and food – similar to our last run in Lowell (think pancakes\, coffee and lots of laughter while getting to know fellow Eugenians and transplants!). \nIf you’re in Eugene\, meet us at the store at 7:15 am and we’ll carpool out to the trailhead. If you plan to meet us out there\, we should arrive around 8:30 am. From Eugene\, take I-5 to Cottage Grove exit 174 and follow signs to Dorena Lake. Continue on the main\, paved road a total of 18.6 miles from the freeway\, passing the reservoir and the settlements of Dorena and Culp Creek. At a large paved fork\, veer right onto Brice Creek Road for 8.2 miles. (You will pass the Brice Creek West Trailhead about 3.3 miles into this road.) \nWe welcome seasoned and beginner trail runners – this will be fun for all! \nMore info about the trail can be found here. \nPhoto courtesy of Denise and Henrik Van Ryzin.

If one run in the forest wasn’t enough for you\, then you can get your fill the next day. 9 AM Sunday. Here is the info for Sunday’s preview run: https://www.facebook.com/events/285232015493459/?active_tab=discussion\nThis is a bit of a drive\, so expect to be gone all day. If you can pull it though\, I promise you it will be worth it:) \nHISTORY OF THE TRAIL:\nIf you enjoy reading about the history of the trail you are running on continue reading. If not you can skip this paragraph: The mountainous\, temperate Tillamook Rain forest in Northwestern Oregon is steeped in history\, most notably\, the legendary “Tillamook Burn” forest fires that consumed 355\,000 acres of colossal old growth forest from 1933-1951. One of the largest tree replanting campaigns in human history led to the formation of the Tillamook State Forest in 1974. Today\, a lush second-growth forest thrives here\, offering dozens of miles of exceptional single-track trails for us to enjoy\, while showcasing hundreds of massive\, emblematic “grey ghost” snags and charred stumps– enduring relics of the vast old growth rain forest that reigned here prior to the Tillamook Burn. \nHISTORY OF THE GRAND LODGE MCMENAMINS:\nIn 1917\, plans were developed for the Masonic and Eastern Star Home for the State of Oregon\, and construction began in 1920. It was established as a home for elderly and infirm Masons\, and began operations in 1922. A smaller building\, called the Children’s Cottage\, was built in 1926 to house orphans\, but the orphanage closed in 1928 after conflict between the children and the elders. \nThroughout the 1930’s\, the home struggled financially. The building suffered roof damage in 1962 after the Columbus Day Storm. In 1999 the Masons began building new facilities with the intention of moving out of the original Masonic Home and Children’s Cottage. McMenamins began renovations fall 1999\, and reopened the building as McMenamins Grand Lodge in March 2000. The building now contains hotel rooms\, meeting spaces\, and a movie theater.

SUMMARY:Monthly Destination Trail Run: McKenzie River Trail
DESCRIPTION:For December’s monthly Trail destination run we will keep with tradition and head to the McKenzie River Trail for the holidays! We will meet at Run Hub at 9 AM to carpool to Belknap Hot Springs\, and then we will get shuttled to three different spots (snow permitting) up the trail for a 13\, 9\, or 5 mile option. The 5-miler will start at Deer Creak and head back to Belknap\, the 9-miler will be dropped off at Trail Bridge\, and the 14 miler will be dropped off at Carmen Reservoir. (Snow permitting) The 14-miler will run by Blue Pool. If you have not seen this wonder it is definitely worth burning the extra calories. Afterwards come join us for a soak at Belknap. One hour costs $7 and will be certain to warm your legs up after a brisk run on the trail. Shuttles will be $5 a piece. All proceeds will go to McKenzie High School Athletics. Cash only please. All levels welcome. Come out and join us for a fun run with friends right before the New Year! \nThe past two years we have not been able to shuttle runners to Carmen Reservoir because of the snow level. If that is the case but you still want to do Blue pool\, you can just do an out and back from Trail Bridge and make it almost a 13-mile run. \nHere are the maps on Strava for the Deer Creek and Trail Bridge run. \nhttps://www.strava.com/routes/16352089/edit : Trail Bridge: This is for the long run going to Blue Pool and back. (If doing the shorter one you just would cut off the out and back section) \nhttps://www.strava.com/routes/new : Dear Creek: The short run.

SUMMARY:Destination Trail Run: Larison Creek Oakridge
DESCRIPTION:For February’s Destination Trail run you are in for a treat. This is one of my personal favorite trails. This is a 10k trail one way\, just a few miles past Oakridge. Do the entire trail\, out and back and you will get 20k of pure bliss trail running. There are no other trails to get lost on\, so do not worry about which way to go for this one. There is only one way! The trail hugs the Hills Creek Reservoir and steadily gains elevation while you run. You will not even feel like you are gaining altitude until the last mile\, where you will have a nice steep climb to the end of the trail. If you do the entire thing you might be treated with some snow! \nAfter the run join us for a bite to eat at Brewers Union. \nOakridge is truly a trail running paradise and I would love to share a little piece of it with all of you by joining me for a run in the woods. Details below: \nSaturday\, February 29th:\n8:00 AM: Meet at RunHub NW. 515 High St. Eugene\, OR. \n9:00 AM: Park at the Larison Creek Trailhead for a run. \n12:00 PM: Food at Brewers Union. \nDirections to trailhead: Coming from Eugene\, continue on Highway 58 passing the entire town of Oakridge. After passing Green Waters Park on your right you will climb a hill. Take a right on Hills Creek Rd. Then you will take another right on NF-21. Continue for just over 5 miles and the trailhead will be on your right. \nTrail information:\nhttps://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/willamette/recreation/recarea/?recid=4602

SUMMARY:Destination Trail Run: Dead Mountain Oakridge Triple Summit Preview Run
DESCRIPTION:On September 24-26\, the Oakridge Triple Summit Challenge will take place\, so we will not be doing a destination trail run at the end of September. Instead we are going to do one a couple of weeks earlier on Sunday\, September 12. We will meet at 8 AM at Run Hub to carpool to the Dead Mountain trailhead. We will leave Run Hub around 8:15 and should arrive at the trailhead around 9 AM. This is an up and down mountain course\, so if you want to summit it will be just over an 11-mile roundtrip. If you want to run less you can turn around at anytime\, but I promise the views are worth the summit! After the run we will head to 3 Legged Crane Pub and Brewhouse (formerly known as Brewers Union Local 180) for a beer and lunch. All levels and abilities are invited! This is a preview run for Day 2 of the Oakridge Triple Summit Challenge. If you are interested in running or volunteering at the race there are still spots available. Go to https://oakridgetriplesummitchallenge.com/ for more details. \n\n\n\nSchedule:8:00-8:15 AM: Meet at Run Hub to carpool to trail head. Address: 515 High St. Eugene\, OR.9:00 AM: Meet at the Dead Mountain trail head: Directions: If you Google Map 3 Legged Crane you will drive past the brewery on your left and continue driving for about a mile. SUMMARY:Destination Trail Run: Middle Fork Willamette Trail
DESCRIPTION:For this month’s destination trail run\, we are going to go to Oakridge. In my biased opinion\, the best place for trails in the entire PNW\, and possibly the nation! With over 500 miles of trails around the area you never have to stop exploring. This month we will be going on a new trail called the Middle Fork. It was a relatively flat trail\, compared to Oakridge trail standards. It is over 30 miles long one way and hugs the Middle Fork Willamette River the entire way. We will start at Sand Prairie campground\, which is 12 miles south on forest service road 21. It is an approximately a 70-minute drive from Run Hub. We will run south on the Middle Fork trail. Since this trail is a one way you can turn around whenever you like. We will eat lunch at Three Legged Crane Brewery in Oakridge after. Details below: \n\n\n\n8:00 AM: Meet at Run Hub NW.8:15 AM: Car pool to Sand Prairie Campground.9:30 AM: Arrive at campground. Start run.12:00 PM: Meet at Three Legged Crane Brewery for lunch. \n\n\n\nHope to see you at Run Hub! I will bring a map for everyone to look at. It is a gorgeous trail and very runnable with little elevation gain.

SUMMARY:(CANCELLED) Destination Trail Run: McKenzie River Trail with Topo Running!
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to our biggest destination trail run of the year! Come out and enjoy a run in the woods with friends and a soak in the hot springs after! Details below:9:00 AM: Meet at Run Hub for a 9:15ish departure. Car pool options will be available.10:15 AM: Arrive at Belknap Hot Springs. You can also meet us in the parking lot there at this time rather than carpool. Address: 59296 Belknap Hot Springs Rd\, McKenzie Bridge\, OR 97413.Run: Topo will be there for you to demo some shoes. We will start at Belknap and run east on the famous McKenzie River trail. The trail is closed 5 miles up due to a bridge down\, so the longest option this year will be a 10 mile out and back. If you wanted to run longer though you can always continue past the hot springs to the end of the trail and run back. That would get you an extra 3 plus miles for a total of over 13 miles. For those who want to run less simply just turn around early. After the run enjoy a one hour long soak at the Belknap Hot Springs. Cost is $8 per person. Towels are extra\, so bring your own towel. *Normally we would be shuttled to start the run\, making it point to point\, but the fires during the late summer devastated this trail and they are still cleaning up and building bridges. Sections are still closed and will be closed until the summer. Can’t wait to see you all there! This has been our biggest run in the past. In 2019 we had 58 runners. Let’s enjoy these trails we are so lucky to have.
